Changes in Police Service

THE Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Patrick Acheampong, has made some changes in the hierarchy of the Ghana Police Service.
Under the changes, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Frank Adu-Poku is to take over as Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and would be assisted by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ken Yeboah, currently the Chief Staff Officer at the Police Headquarters.
DCOP Patrick Timbillah, currently the Deputy Director-General of CID, is to take over as Director-General of Police Operations.
The International Police Organisation (INTERPOL) on September 3, this year, appointed the Director-General of CID, Mr David Asante-Apeatu, as its Director for Specialised Crime and Analysis (SCA). His mandate covers Drugs and Criminal Organisations, Financial and High-Tech Crime, Public Safety and Terrorism, Trafficking in Human Beings, and Criminal Analysis
The acting Director of Police Public Affairs, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kwesi Ofori, told newsmen yesterday that the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kweku Ayensu Opare-Addo is to take over the command of Accra Region.
He said DCOP Oppong Boanuh, currently Director-General in charge of Welfare at the headquarters, is to take over as Brong Ahafo Regional Commander and would be assisted by ACP Charles Tokor, Director of CID Operations.
He said the Commander of Highway Patrol, Superintendent Sayibu Garba, is now Special Operations Assistant at the Police Headquarters.
According to him, with the exception of ACP Yeboah and ACP Tokor who are to assume duty on September 19 and 25, 2007 respectively, the other changes takes effect from October 1, 2007.
DSP Ofori said the appointments were made taking into consideration experience, and strategic and tactical exigencies of the Police Service.
He said the IGP was yet to appoint the Commander for Ashanti Region.
In addition he said the Western Regional Commander Commissior of Police, Kofi Duku had been transferred to the national headquarters.
