rlg STORY WORTHY OF EMULATION

Page 7: Daily Graphic, March 14, 2012. THE success story of rlg Communications, a local computer and cellular phone assembling company, seems to be a fairy tale to those who have followed the company from the beginning. It was from a similar humble beginning that Bill Gates has become a household name in the world and we believe Ghana can build a number of blue chip companies from the example set by rlg. The story of rlg has become sweet to tell and show to the world because we think that the support it has and continues to receive from the government and other stakeholders is commendable. We, however, believe we need to go beyond the rlg story to identify many more of such local companies to help them develop and expand their enterprises. In doing so, we will be creating job openings for our youth and other business opportunities. The story of Zoomlion Ghana Limited is also a case in point and good reason for us to pool resources to push this country forward. As Vice-President John Mahama noted at the launch of the 10th anniversary of rlg, the pull-him-down syndrome in this country had kept many people behind and eventually retarded our progress. Although he called for more contracts for local companies, we believe the challenge thrown to them to improve upon their managerial and entrepreneurial skills is timely, for no government or financial institution would want to pump resources into an organisation which is ineptly managed. The rlg story again demonstrates what good management and entrepreneurial ability can do for this country. Soon, there will be an IT explosion in this part of the world and at the heart of this explosion will be data processing and management, both of which trigger the development process. And, given the way our youth are handling IT devices, especially mobile phones and computers, and what they use them for, we all have to gird our loins to position ourselves to take advantage of this explosion. We also need to remind ourselves that these devices can be misapplied, hence the need to focus on their positive uses for the good of our society. While commending the Chief Executive of rlg Communications, Mr Roland Agambire, for his achievements, we believe he needs to remain focused on his vision. Enterprises collapse just when everyone thinks they are on the ascendancy because of complacency and poor management practices. The challenges in business development will always come but those challenges can be overcome if we remain focused on what we set out to do. We believe Mr Agambire and his rlg team can take the country to greater heights.
